WWC Sprint

Building a Data Governance Team (GVX 012)

START DATE: 05/04/2021 End Date: 05/27/2021
REGISTRATION ENDS: Monday, April 26, 2021

Effective data governance is essential for organizations to treat data as a strategic asset. Join this Sprint to help you build a data governance team by defining a mission statement for data governance in your organization, identifying the appropriate data governance structure for your organization, identifying key stakeholders, and defining roles and responsibilities for your data governance effort.

At the end of this Sprint, you will have created a plan for a collaborative data governance effort that meaningfully engages key stakeholders and identifies key focus areas for a successful data governance effort. This Sprint is designed to provide valuable information for government professionals interested and directly involved in establishing Data Governance practices within their departments or agencies, as well as leading city-wide data governance efforts. Participants will be expected to review provided reading materials and videos prior to the live sessions and complete the relevant assignments to help build a plan for institutionalizing a data governance effort in their cities.
Important Dates and Time:
Kickoff Synchronous Session: Tuesday, May 04, 2021
Weekly Synchronous (Virtual) Live Sessions: Every Tuesday (12:30 pm - 1:45 pm EST) and Thursdays (12 pm - 12:45 pm EST)

- Identify which individuals should be part of your data governance team
- Determine roles and responsibilities for your data governance team
- Identify a focus area for your data governance team
This is an online, instructor-facilitated 4-week sprint developed by GovEx Academy, part of the Centers for Civic Impact at Johns Hopkins University.
